Fruit Wedding Favors

By Bridget Mora

If you are a fan of wedding elements with a natural feeling like handmade wedding jewelry, you will love bringing that same feeling to your wedding favors. Instead of a pre-packaged favor, give your guests something fresh and juicy, straight from the earth: fruit. Take a look at some wonderful ways to give fruit as your wedding favors.

Pears are one of the most elegant fruits, and they can make fantastic favors for even a fairly formal wedding. They also happen to have a graceful form which makes them an attractive addition to your wedding reception. One single perfect pear at each place setting makes a lovely gift, as long as you take the time to dress it up with a pretty wrapping (presentation is important for all fruit favors, actually). Take tissue and decorate it with a custom rubber stamp featuring your wedding date and monogram. Wrap each pear in the tissue, tie with a metallic ribbon, and you will have an elegant favor. Another idea is to make small pouches of tiny Seckel pears. Place them in a sheer fabric that will allow them to be seen and tie on a label bearing the phrase ‘the perfect pair’.

Strawberries are a favorite fruit, sweet and ripe. For a decadent treat, fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate are always wonderful. This would be a possibility for a diy bride, or order them from a candy store. A small collection of large berries dipped in white, milk, and dark chocolates are sure to be a huge hit as your wedding favors. For a casual summertime reception, wooden berry baskets can be filled with strawberries and homemade biscuits for a tasty snack (kind of like strawberry shortcake minus the whipped cream). Tie on a red gingham bow for an appealing country gift basket.

Another wonderful summer fruit is cherries. With their rich red color they would make a terrific looking wedding favor. Handfuls of cherries can be presented in any number of containers. Mini galvanized tin pails would be adorable for a farm or meadow reception. Or place the cherries in small white ceramic bowls with a cherry pie recipe attached. Clear Chinese take-out style containers could even work. Add a pretty bow around the handle, and you will be all set with a quick and easy favor that everyone is sure to enjoy.

Fresh apples abound in the fall, and they would make a terrific favor idea for an autumn wedding. Caramel dipped apples would be a great gift for a fall wedding, especially if you will have a lot of kids at your reception. Wrap them up in cellophane and tie a note of thanks to your guests around the stick with raffia or a brown grosgrain ribbon. Delightful! For a more elaborate apple-themed favor, make up little gift boxes with a few fresh apples and a packet containing the fixins’ for apple crisp along with the recipe. That would be a very festive fall favor for a rustic wedding.

If fresh fruit is not feasible, you can always think about a delicious homemade jam or chutney made from your favorite fruit. This would be wonderful for the bride whose wedding is all about lovingly handmade details, right down to her decorations and jewelry. The jam can be finished off with a custom label with your names and wedding date, as well as your wedding motif if you have one. This is a parting gift that will surely be greatly enjoyed by your wedding guests.
